(More customer reviews)The perfect applique shape for the cat lover. Using this with my AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutter with Value Die Set I get perfectly cut kitties everytime to use on my quilts and other craft prjects. Just once I tried to cut a similar shape by hand using a printed template. Not only was it less than perfect, it took me nearly 10 minutes to do. Using this die it would be easy to get 20 or more perfectly cut kitties i less time using the Accuquil.
Someone once told me that by getting the shapes perfectly cut each time they have no character or individuality. Not true!!! Add buttons or hand cut ovals for eyes, use a little pink button for the nose, use permanent fabric ink to draw in the eyes, whiskers, etc., and you can have a lot more character than an irregularly cut shape offers. I also purchased the AccuQuilt GO! Baby Fabric Cutting Dies; Gingham Dog so I can have both shapes for animal projects of all kinds. You are limited only by your imagination.
Both the Calico Cat and Gingham Dog shapes fit great within a finished 6" square. If you're using 5" charm squares be sure you use a scant 1/4" seam and position them perfectly or they may overlap the seam and eventually come loose if you use fusible backing.
I also would like to pass along a tip for the Accuquilt dies. After using a die for a couple of times, use a fine point Sharpie or other permanent ink marker and trace the shape on the die. If you are trying to create minimal waste or doing fussy cuts, it makes it much easier to accurately position the fabric.
