(More customer reviews)Before my Singer, I had only used a machine twice in my life, so when it arrived, I got a pleasant surprise - I was off sewing within minutes, getting great results and having loads of fun. I especially love that threading is so easy, and you learn quickly where to be careful to avoid thread breakage.
Changing to embroidery unit - no problem, though getting the right foot attached usually takes me a sec. I daringly started off with one of my own Embird designs... without a glitch, even without the use of stabilizer, just straight onto firm cotton.
I love that the machine is easy to use, especially the Futura software. Its 24 standard stitches are more than enough, its embroidery is great. And my absolute favorite is the hoop size! Other machines with a similar (still higher) price tag come with a 4"x4" hoop, this one has two hoops with a maximum of 5"x7". You might not think you will need this, but you will - either when doing multiple designs on one large hoop, or just embroidering longer names.
The manual could be improved at times, but I hardly ever needed it.
I hear people complaining about broken thread - honestly, just like with every machine, you just need to know the Singer's quirks.
During the first 3-5 stitches of every color, hold the upper thread in the back, and no false thread breakage will occur. If it still does, thread the whole thing again and you will be fine. Don't use pre-wound bobbins without stabilizer. It will give you trouble after only 1/3 of the bobbin is empty, and since the bobbin case is plastic, you really shouldn't use metal bobbins either. Just wind your own bobbins when needed, it is easy enough.
Make sure that you use good embroidery yarn; every machine has brands it doesn't like. I am currently extremely happy with the Madeira yarns.
The fact that it needs a computer next to it... You know that before buying, don't you? To me, that is not a disadvantage at all, since I appreciate the large screen, and that I can work in Embird while the machine embroiders, preparing the next project.
It really is an awesome machine for that price. In Europe, the only difference between the 150 and the 250/350 are the number of stitches and which software is included.
Since I am using Embird, I really needed nothing except the Futura software to send designs to the machine, and 24 stutches is more than enough for what I do.
I highly recommend the machine - I am utterly in love with it.

Singer CE-150 Futura Sewing-and-Embroidery MachineThe Singer Futura CE-150 is a fully electronic sewing machine and computer-linked embroidery unit. Ideal for both sewing and embroidery, this easy-to-use machine provides an array of convenient features.
Sewing Features at a GlanceAutomatic Needle Threader
The automatic needle threader is sewing's biggest time saver. This feature makes threading the eye of the needle quick and painless.
Easy Top Drop-In Bobbin System with Clear Cover
This easy to use, top-loading bobbin system simplifies preparing the machine for sewing. Simply drop the bobbin, loop the guide, pick up the bobbin thread and you're ready to sew. The clear view cover makes it easy to monitor the thread supply.
Automatic Bobbin Winding Clutch
The needle bar automatically disengages when winding the bobbin, making bobbin winding safer.
Twenty-Four Built-In Stitches
Twenty-four built-in stitches offer a large variety of stitches for construction, fashion sewing, quilting, heirloom, crafts, home decorating and decorative sewing, and always ensure the perfect stitch for every project.
One-Touch Stitch Selection
With just the touch of a button you can select the stitch as well as the optimum settings for length, width, balance, pressure and tension.
Adjustable Stitch Length and Width
Keep your seams strong and prevent bunching on any type of fabric with adjustable stitch length and width. Optimal stitch settings are automatically set. However, you can easily reset them to personalize your stitches.
7mm Stitch Width
Select stitches can be set for a maximum width of 7mm. When sewing decorative stitches or satin stitches the wide stitches are bolder and more pronounced.
Two Fully Automatic One-Step Buttonholes
Two fully automatic one-step buttonholes provide professional results at the touch of a button. Each side of the buttonhole is sewn in the same direction creating beautifully balanced buttonholes like the pros. The buttonholes are created using the buttonhole foot with exclusive underplate. The underplate makes creating buttonholes possible in places that conventional buttonhole devices cannot easily reach.
Four-Segment Feed Dogs with Box Feed
This specially designed feed dog ensures the fabric is picked up and supported from the front of the presser foot to the rear. The box feed motion moves the feed dogs in a box motion, rather than the historic arc motion. The feed dogs are always in perfect and equal contact with the fabric and presser foot.
Drop Feed for Free Motion Sewing
The drop feed feature allows for creative top stitching. A conveniently located lever, easily and effortlessly moved, will lower the feed dogs for free motion sewing. Drop feed is handy when sewing quilts, monograms and adding creative touches to your sewing projects.
Electronic Twin-Needle Control
With the electronic twin-needle control, stitches are automatically adjusted for twin-needle sewing in a snap. Twin-needle sewing creates two parallel rows of stitching, adding a decorative touch to any project. Full instructions are included in the manual.
Programmable Needle Up/Down
Select to have the needle stop in the down position when appliquéing, quilting or pivoting fabric. When removing the fabric from the machine, it is easier if the needle is raised to the highest position.
Stitch-Locking Function and Automatic Back-Tack Function
Tie off decorative and straight stitches with just the touch a button. Reinforcing the end of the seams ensures quality stitches, avoids unraveling and provides stronger stitching.
Three StayBright LED Lights
Three lights over the sewing area address a feature requested by customers--better lighting. With lights on each side of the needle area as well as one light over the large surface to the right of the needle, it is easier to see your work. An illuminated sewing area makes all of your sewing more precise. Sewing is also more practical because the well–lit sewing area reduces eye-strain often caused by working in low lighting.
Automatic Tension
This system ensures stable stitch quality, regardless of fabric type. Feel free to override the preset tension for special project settings.
Automatic Presser-Foot Pressure
The amount of pressure exerted on the fabric by the presser foot against the feed dogs is automatic. Sew from the lightest weight tricots to the heaviest denim without making pressure adjustments.
Extra-High Presser Foot Lifter
The extra-high presser foot lifter offers more clearance when placing multiple layers of bulky fabric under the presser foot.
Electronic Stitch Formation
All stepper motors are electronically controlled. Digital control of the stepper motors allows for perfectly formed patterns every time.
Vertical and Horizontal Thread Delivery
In addition to the machine's horizontal thread delivery, a second vertical spool holder is provided at the back of the machine specifically designed for many of today's threads.
Thirteen Needle Positions
Needle positions can be changed for individual projects including inserting zippers, cording and topstitching.
Optimum Power Control
The optimum power control aids in sewing multiple layers of dense fabric. The power remains constant regardless of sewing speed.
Warning Signals
The machine produces audible warning messages to alert the sewer, ensuring trouble‐free sewing.
Heavy-Duty Metal Frame
This rigid support holds all the mechanisms in perfect alignment for skip‐free sewing.
